High Sierra Longshot 70 Hydration Pack Review

I have used this hydration pack for the last 3-4 months, I am confident enough to say it is certainly a first-class hydration pack!

I'm basically able to pack everything needed for a day-hike in the Longshot 70.

It can easily accept not only the 2 liters of water, but also a flashlight, compass, change of shirt and socks, a rain jacket, several packs of trail mix, sandwiches, cans of drink, and spare batteries. This pack served me without fail on a hike in Yellowstone National Park.

When using the hiking pack for the more urban activities, the water bladder is easily removed and can be replaced with a small laptop/tablet, a light jacket, lunch, pens, keys, or other such everyday items.

Positives

I love the Longshot 70 Hydration Pack. I chose this pack for day-hikes because I believed it would make the hike a more pleasant and comfortable experience, especially when there's no need to haul a standalone water bottle.

It easily holds enough water to stay well hydrated on the trails while also giving space to store bug spray, snacks, lunch, compass, or wherever else you need.

But, I didn't really like the plastic-latch that is intended to hold the inside bladder seal, which can make the process of replacing the bladder more time-consuming than it needs to be.

Negatives

One minor issue I noticed with this hydration pack (which is similar to most other packs) is the tendency to cause a build-up of sweat.

Even though the design has an airflow cooled back it doesn't fully vent this area well and avoid issues with sweat build-up.

Plus, as mentioned before, the bladder system can be slow and difficult to refill, but otherwise this is a very nice backpack.

Best Bits

  • Old size – but that one size is perfect
  • Multiple pockets
  • Nice bladder system
  • Lightweight to use
  • Great material quality
  • Low-cost – compared to alternatives in the market

Worst Bits

  • Chest straps can pull off
  • Slow to refill the bladder

Summary

Versatile and definitely worth your money, the High Sierra Longshot 70 Hydration Pack is a perfect choice for winter sports, mountain biking, and hiking.
